Group: Emergency rescue workers

Issue: A review of the response to the fatal accident involving a SAD 39 school bus and an SUV driven by Buckfield Junior-Senior High School student Amy Cerrato. Cerrato was killed in the crash.

The scoop: Those meeting including Chief Tony Lord and Lisa Buck of Buckfield Rescue, Gerry Pineau of United Ambulance, Norm St. Pierre of Tri-Town Rescue, Buckfield fire Chief Steve Bly, Sumner fire Chief Bob Stewart and firefighters Steve McGuinty and Tom Standard discussed how all the victims involved received the best possible care. The meeting was aimed at improving services.

Buckfield Town Manager Glen Holmes said he was pleased the emergency team took the time to review the mass casualty incident and that the meeting went well.

Issue: Broken water main in town hall

The scoop: School and town records were damaged when 18 inches of water flooded a basement floor. Most of the town records were dried out and salvaged while some school records were placed in a rented freezer until a restoration company can pick them up and work to restore them. Buckfield firefighters pumped the water out of the flooded basement.

Issue: Road damage.

The scoop: Holmes estimates the town sustained $110,000 damage to roads from last week’s nor’easter.

Town: Hartford

Issue: Resignation of Dan Maddox.

The scoop: The Planning Board and Comprehensive Planning Committee accepted Maddox’s resignation from both groups with regrets.

Issue: Road conditions.

The scoop: Road Commissioner Kathy Lowe said ruts on Pratt Hill, Camp and Town Farm roads had been filled.

Selectmen Chairman David Bowen said he had heard multiple complaints about winter road conditions and one compliment.

Town: Canton

Issue: Volunteer training offered.

The scoop: Oxford County Emergency Management will offer training for volunteers to man shelters and carry on other duties during natural or man-made disasters. Those interested should call EMA Director Jim Dyment at 597-2235.

Issue: Transfer station use.

The scoop: Officials are reminding residents that vehicle stickers are required to use the transfer station.
