FARMINGTON – The Healthy Community Coalition mobile health unit is back in front of the Farmington Wal-Mart every Tuesday at a new time, from noon to 4 p.m., offering free ScoreHealth screenings that include a blood pressure check, cholesterol check and information on nutrition and physical activity.

There was concern that the unit would not return this spring, because in needed repairs to pass inspection. Nancy Morgan, executive director of the United Way, worked with Farmington Ford and they were able to have the unit repaired and back on the road.

“This year we owe a special thanks to the United Way and Farmington Ford for their commitment to improving the health of the community,” said Sandy Richard, RN BSN, HCC program manager. “Through the generous donations of our community members and businesses, our local United Way has been a consistent supporter of the mobile health unit and the weekly screenings offered in front of Wal-Mart.”

The unit is the only place where anyone can receive a ScoreHealth screening free. ScoreHealth is a health risk assessment program that includes cholesterol screening, blood pressure, counseling on nutrition, physical activity, tobacco cessation and stress management.

Results are given at the end of each visit and a copy can also be sent to the primary care provider. Each assessment takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

The coalition is the community’s connection to health information and the local health care system. Those who have no health insurance or are paying a high deductible can hear the options from the coalition staff.

The free physician referral line, 1-800-450-2075, can help residents find a doctor in the Greater Franklin County area.

The coalition also provides free walking maps, nutritional information and recipes and tobacco cessation information. Visitors may also qualify for no-cost mammograms offered through the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program. For more information, call 645-3136 or 1-800-525-3136 for visit www.fchn.org/hcc.
