Did you know that listening to music helps relieve stress? I sure didn’t until I read an article. But it does! Listen to music that makes you feel comfortable. If you don’t like it, then don’t force yourself to sit and listen. But you can also play or sing music!

Experts suggest that it is the beat of rhythm of the song that has this calming effect on us. When we were in our mother’s womb, we listened tot he heart beat of our mother. So it makes sense that we can associate this with a safe, protective environment. Celtic and Native American music is good because of the loud, rhythmic beating of the drum, or soothing music. Whenever the proper sounds were experienced a right/left brain synchronization occurred. Among many other effects, one is deep breathing.

I always wondered why there would be music playing the background when we went to the dentist, but this explains it. It is proven that music reduces the level of pain during dental appointments. It has also been proven to reduce the amount of stress on a person in the work area. Music is much more effective when actually played, sung or created.

I love music! I love singing, playing the saxophone or piano. I also love listening to all types of music. It’s part of who I am! I picked this piece because I think that this may be the reason I don’t feel stressed out too often. I have no doubt in my mind that this is false. My mom and I always enjoy listening to music when we work. In fact, I’m listening to 104.3 on the radio right now! I believe that it creates a very low key environment.

I think that this could be helpful to kids in Maine because there are a lot of teens who can get very stressed about juggling all their homework and sports. I know that I have a lot to work with. Also, people are very in to music these days. I don’t think many kids would object to this. Kids could really benefit from this. It’s a subject that I really enjoyed writing about.
