There were conflicting reports out of Houston this weekend that Jeff Van Gundy will retire because he needs to get away from the grind of coaching in the NBA. Really? He looks so well-rested.

NFL-ready

Olympic sprinter Justin Gatlin took part in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ rookie mini-camp, with hopes of launching a career as a wide receiver. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but Gatlin is also facing a track and field suspension of up to eight years for failing a drug test last summer.

Pariahs should stick together

An ESPN/ABC News poll revealed a racial disparity in the way baseball fans view Barry Bonds’ pursuit of Hank Aaron’s home run record. For example, 46 percent of black fans think Barry Bonds is being treated unfairly compared 25 percent of white fans. Ironically, O.J. Simpson sided with the white folks.

I must kill…the Queen

I hope that Queen Elizabeth II enjoyed her first Kentucky Derby Saturday. I’m sure it was comforting for Her Majesty to know that Reggie Jackson is under house arrest in the Bronx during her visit to the States.

Move over Beckham

Diego Maradona was released from a Buenos Aires rehab clinic after a more than two-week stay for for alcohol abuse. Maradona would have stayed longer, but he heard the MLS only needs one more superstar to really grab America’s attention.
