BATH – Jazz vocalist Carole Stone of Damariscotta and renowned jazz pianist Muriel Havenstein of Nobleboro will present a miniconcert Thursday, May 17, as part of the Third Thursday Jazz Concert Series at the Chocolate Church Art Gallery.

Presented by the Maine Jazz Alliance and the Chocolate Church Arts Center, this year’s concerts began in mid-February and will continue each month through June 21.

Stone’s sophisticated vocals have been heard in clubs and venues along the Maine coast. Formerly the featured singer at Graziano’s Restaurant in Lisbon, she also appeared in a weekly duo with guitarist Mark Kleinhaut at Hugo’s Portland Bistro. “Mellow” is how she describes her style. She has staged and sung in jazz performances at the Chocolate Church Arts Center, the Waldo Theatre and the Maine Festival. A frequent collaborator in dance and music, Stone has performed with the Art Moves Studio of Deb Irons and with Arthur Hall.

Known for her swinging piano style, Havenstein’s credentials span a lifelong career in music. She has played in recent years with Noel Kaletsky and Scotty Philbrick and has appeared in numerous jazz festivals all over New England. Havenstein is also a favorite collaborator of TJ Wheeler and The Jazz Babies. “The Midcoast Monster,” as she is affectionately called, has been honored by Gov. John Baldacci for her contribution to Maine Arts.

The miniconcert will be from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Admission is $5. The Chocolate Church Art Gallery is at 798 Washington St. To order tickets, call The Chocolate Church Arts Center at 442-8455. For information on the Maine Jazz Alliance, call 373-0306.
