LISBON FALLS – Warren Galway, assistant principal of Lisbon High School, has presented a Helping Hand Award to Cassandra Carlow, a member of the junior class. She is the daughter of Lynn and Nina Carlow of Lisbon Falls.

Carlow was nominated by Ron Hood, mentor coordinator for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program.

“Cassandra volunteers one hour per week during the entire school year to spend time with a student at Sugg Middle School. Cassandra is a mentor or ‘Big Sister’ and assists her ‘Little Sister’ with homework, plays games or simply talks so they can get to know each other better,” said Hood.

“The mentoring relationship benefits both the ‘Big’ and the ‘Little’ in many ways. Without Cassandra’s personal effort, the mentoring match would never take place. Cassandra gives of herself in this volunteer capacity, and through this process she makes the difference in the life of her ‘Little’ and makes a big difference in her community,” said Galway.
