LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is holding its 11th annual Strutt Your Mutt Dog Walk and Pet Festival from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the shelter at 55 Strawberry Ave.
The morning will feature a 10 a.m. shotgun start for walkers and their canine companions followed by a blessing of the animals, pet crafts, vendors, raffles and canine agility demonstrations. Angry Buffalo Photography will be available for professional pet portraits.
Attendees can also enter their pooch in one of the talent contests. Contest categories include Best Tail Wagger, Least Obedient Dog, Stupid Pet Tricks, Best Smile, Biggest Ham and Bobbing for Burgers.
All walkers are asked to collect pledges. There will be a registration fee for the talent contests of $3/class or four classes for $10. The money raised will stay in the community and benefit the humane society.
This is a “people” walk; dogs are welcome, but not necessary. Walking as a team through a business or with friends is also encouraged. Dogs must be leashed and have their current rabies vaccination. No dogs in heat are allowed.
Pledge sheets are available at the shelter, local veterinary offices and online at www.gahumane.org.
The society provides a haven for more than 4,000 sick, homeless and abused animals a year. The primary support comes from fundraising events and donations. Those interested in learning more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal should call 783-2311 or visit www.gahumane.org.
