LITCHFIELD – The following will be recognized at the 2007 Litchfield Spirit of America Award ceremony at 7 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Cornerstone Baptist Church for their exemplary altruistic service:

Emily Beaulieu, age 8, donated all toys brought to her last two birthday parties to kids losing homes to fires. Her Emily’s Wish charity has amassed hundreds of toys for kids in need.

Judy Bourget is chairwoman of the Litchfield Conservation Commission. She has also been assisting many other groups, including Eastern Star, senior housing and senior advisory.

Elaine Carpenter, Cynthia DeWitt, Nelson Gamage and Carol Smith all played a major role in making Litchfield Conservation Commission’s Earth Day weekend clean-up a success.

Cornerstone Baptist Church Psalmists are a music ministry group formed in the past few months that serves the spiritual needs of those who are unable to attend Sunday services.

Bob Deschaine has given numerous hours of service to the Good Shepherd Food-Bank, and he has also assisted Cornerstone Baptist Church in a variety of ways over the years.

Litchfield Conservation Commission has devoted one weekend each of the past three years to collecting roadside trash and helps keep the community aware of environmental issues.

Litchfield Historical Preservation Commission is in charge of finding/maintaining the town’s historical records, and the group arranged the downstairs archival room in the town office.

Marc Metzger is leader of the Cornerstone Baptist Psalmists group that visits shut-ins each Sunday afternoon, and he regularly performs musically during Sunday services.

John-Michael Poirier, a new parishoner of Cornerstone Baptist Church, is donating the automobile he is refurbishing as the prize in a raffle, with all proceeds to benefit a cancer patient.

George Rogers deserves special praise for his historical research, and Esther Slattery for her typing and other efforts in dedicated service to the Litchfield Historical Preservation Commission.
