Smack!

The ball hits her back with a sting,

Bringing her out of her daydream.

She feels sharp, unbearable pain.

Sniff.

She can’t stop the tears, as they rush down her face,

moving faster and faster,

Dropping like diamonds,

falling into puddles,

at her feet.

She turns and runs,

dancing away pain.

With each twirl,

her smile shines brighter,

Each step lighter than the last.

She continues dancing,

Until all that remains of her pain,

is the small bruise on her back.
