YARMOUTH – Patricia Mary Siviski, of Yarmouth, was born to eternal life on May 19, surrounded by her loving family at their home.
An inspiration to all that knew her, her radiant smile, personality, and love for people will long be remembered.
She was the daughter of Mary Sullivan Smith and the late Hugh C. Smith of Topsham. She had always fondly remembered her childhood days and family life in Topsham. A lover of the outdoors, she enjoyed hiking, kayaking, mountain climbing, and family camping trips to Moosehead Lake.
A graduate of Brunswick High School, she was the salutatorian of her class, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in music from Mt. Holyoke College, class of 1973, and a masters degree in choral conducting from the University of Washington in Seattle.
She married her husband Ron, of 27 years, in 1979. She has been a source of energy, love, and inspiration to many, including their son Joseph, and daughters Elizabeth and Jane, all of Yarmouth.
Her work and her presence have touched the lives of many. An extraordinarily gifted music educator, she began her career in Waterville, where she taught junior high music. While in Waterville, she served as choir director at the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church for nine years. When she and her husband moved to the Portland area, she became director of music ministry at Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth, where she was a communicant for 23 years, and built a thriving music program.
She has also taught music at Waynflete School in Portland, and most recently taught and directed choruses at the Merriconeag Waldorf School in Freeport, a community that she loved dearly. She has been guest conductor and clinician at numerous music festivals, summer camps, and seminars, and had taken choirs from Sacred Heart Church on tour and to music festivals in Austria, Ireland, and Italy.
In addition to her husband and their three children, she is survived by her mother, Mary Sullivan Smith of Topsham; three brothers, Hugh (and Mary) Smith of Falmouth, Mike (and Pam) Smith of Yarmouth, Dan (and Becky) Smith of Gardiner; a sister, Peg (and Nick) Pierce of Mercer; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and an uncle.
She was predeceased by her father, Hugh C. Smith.
