Crime watch

NORWAY – The Norway Neighborhood Crime Watch will present an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, in the Norway Municipal Complex large meeting room. The topic will be “Locks and Lighting.” There will be local contractors on hand to talk about the different types of locks and outside lighting that would make a home more secure.

Yard sale

OXFORD – His Place Teen Center will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Wednesday, May 24 to 30, next to the fish market, Route 26.

The center is collecting good salable items for this annual event and for its new Alpha and Omega Thrift Shop, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Society program

OXFORD – The Oxford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, May 25 at the Kay House, Pleasant Street. The program will be given by Lois Witham, local author. Refreshments will be provided and the public is welcome.

Bake and yard sale

PARIS – A benefit bake and yard sale with games and fun for children will be held from 9 to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 25 and 26, at 659 Park St., Paris.

Proceeds will benefit the Tracy and Raymond Morin family.

Volunteers are being sought as well as donations of new or used items and baked goods. Call Peggy at 357-7072 for more information.

May Madness

PARIS – A Methodist May Madness sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Deering Memorial Methodist Church. There will be a white elephant table, a rummage and bake sale and Ruda for missions table.

Chem-free dance

PARIS – A chem-free dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the reet, sponsored by the Norway/Paris Lions Club.

Cost is $10 a person and tickets will be available at the door. Music will be by the Belairs. Hot dogs, baked goods and soda will be available and there will be a 50/50 raffle.

Sunday service

PARIS – The First Congregational Church of South Paris on Sunday, May 27, will note Memorial weekend and the start of Pentecost. The Rev. Don Mayberry’s sermon is titled “Patriotism and the Holy Spirit.”

The church will hosting area veteran groups and all are welcome. Sunday services are at 10 a.m., child care and children’s supervised activities are provided as Sunday school has concluded for the season. Children come to the first part of the service and after “Children’s Time” are invited to join together for a fun time. Sunday services are broadcast live on AM 1450 and AM 780 and online at www.wtme.com.

First Congregational also offers small group activities such as a Wednesday Bible study/prayer group at 9:30 a.m. and a healing/prayer/support group meeting on Thursdays at 3 p.m. For more information, call the church at 743-2437.

Gospel concert

BETHEL – Gospel singer and recording artist, Ken Fernald, will be in concert at Bethel Alliance Church at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The church is located at 251 Walkers Mills

Fernald has traveled in a music ministry throughout New England for more than 25 years and is a seasoned soloist. The message in song is done with familiar hymns as well as some of the newer gospel favorites.

Fernald has hosted radio and television programs and now travels in a full-time concert ministry. He makes his home in Portsmouth, N.H.

All are invited to the concert and fellowship and refreshments after.

HEBRON – A public fundraising spaghetti supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Hebron Community Baptist Church next to Hebron Academy. Raffle drawings will also be held. Proceeds will help a Hebron Station School 10-year-old raise his own money to attend the National Young Scholars Program this summer. For more information, call 966-2900.

Bridge play

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met May 18 in the Fare Share Commons when a four-table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; second, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; third, Georgette Jewell and Pat Quinn.

Finishing first in Flight B were Carol Curran and Marylou Burns; second, Arlen Riis and Bob Clifford.

There will be another game Friday, May 25. A partner is guaranteed, and all bridge players are welcome.

Special Eucharist

NORWAY – In response to the movement to Make Poverty History, Christ Episcopal Church, 35 Paris St., will celebrate a special U2 Eucharist (“U2charist”) at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 27. The celebration will feature music from U2’s catalogue.

The offering on May 27 will benefit Children Affected by HIV/AIDS and Maison de Naissance (Birth House helping mothers and children survive in Haiti).
