RUMFORD – The Rumford Public Library has announced that auditions for the Summer Fest Children’s Theatre presentation have been scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday, June 5 and 7.
Theater professional Nancy O. DeMilner Demings, back for a ninth season as director of the Children’s Theatre, has adapted the script of “Wiley and the Hairy Man” by Suzan Zeder for this year’s presentation.
“Wiley and the Hairy Man,” which takes place in bayou country, has four main characters, with numerous supporting characters. The performance includes singing and dancing by a chorus of young actors. Demings said, “The stage experience is vital to our young performers, and we always find room for everyone interested in performance art. We focus on stage skills, physical comedy, character-building and acting.”
Auditions will consist of acting warm-ups, group singing and dancing, and a discussion of production details and responsibilities, followed by individual line readings and solo auditions for those interested in major roles.
Participation in Children’s Theatre is free and open to all area children, ages 5 to 15. Older teens interested in backstage work are also welcomed and are vital to the success of the production.
Auditions for “Wiley and the Hairy Man” will be held in the public room of the Rumford Public Library at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, and again on Thursday, June 7. Rehearsals will begin on Thursday, June 14, and will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. throughout June and July. A commitment to attend all rehearsals is essential.
Afternoon and evening performances of the show are planned for Thursday, July 26. For more information, call the Rumford Public Library at 364-3661.
