BANGOR (AP) – A Searsport man who was critically injured last week after crashing his ultralight aircraft into trees at the Belfast Airport has succumbed to his injuries.

Elwyn “Red” Higgins, 66, died Tuesday at Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was taken after the May 22 crash.

Higgins was injured when he tried to climb down from his wrecked ultralight, which was dangling in a tree about 50 feet above the ground. A witness said Higgins had unlocked his safety belt and started to make his way down when a limb broke and he tumbled to the ground.
