JAY – Police are investigating burglaries reported Thursday at three businesses, and the theft of construction equipment valued at more than $4,000 from a construction site on paper mill property.

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken when thieves broke into LaFleur’s Restaurant on Route 4 on Wednesday evening, police officer Russell Adams said. The burglary was reported at 1:24 a.m. Thursday, he said. Evidence was collected at the scene.

Between $4,000 and $5,000 worth of construction equipment was reported stolen by SW&B, a construction company working on Verso Paper property, Adams said.

Representatives of Al’s Tire on Route 133 and Steppin’ Out, a nightclub, on Route 4 also reported break-ins at those businesses Thursday.

It appeared nothing was taken from either business, Adams said.

“We do have suspects and leads,” he said.

Maine State Police Trooper Aaron Turcotte is also investigating another burglary reported Thursday at the Sandy River Farm Supply in New Sharon. A cash register, cigarettes and lottery tickets were among the items stolen from there at about 3:15 a.m., Turcotte said Thursday.
