I’ve recently solved the New England Patriots’ puzzle. I know coach Bill Belichick is in the last year of his contract. I know he referred to the New York Giants head coach job as a “Dream Job.” I know the addition of Randy Moss makes the Patriots Super Bowl contenders. I know Vice President of Player Personnel Scott Pioli traded for the San Francisco 49ers’ number one pick in 2008. I’ve wondered why the Giants kept coach Tom Coughlin for another year and have made no improvements this off-season.

Are Bill and Scott leaving for Jersey? Are they going to go out on top, and leave Patriots owner Robert Kraft with the overall number one pick next year? Are the Giants going to pack it in to draft higher? Will Moss make a leaping catch in the end zone to win the Super Bowl?

I’ve spent the last few weeks contemplating these questions. I think the Kraft family has known some of the answers for some time now. The Patriots have a plethora of weapons on both sides of the ball. They have football’s best coach and player personnel manager. They have Tom Brady. Add Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker, Sammy Morris, and Kelley Washington, Adalius Thomas and Brandon Meriweather….and I know the pieces fit.
