NEW GLOUCESTER – The town has received a Safety Enhancement Grant awarded by the Maine Municipal Association in the amount of $1,577.90.

The Safety Enhancement Grant and Scholarship Grant programs offer financial incentives to members of the MMA Workers Compensation Fund.

Grants are used to purchase safety equipment or services that assist in reducing the frequency and severity of workplace injuries.

MMA has been awarding safety grants to members of its Workers Compensation Fund since 1999, bestowing in excess of $1.34 million for 1,075 safety enhancement grants and 283 scholarship grants.

Ed MacDonald, loss control manager for MMA, said the program received 155 applications for this grant period, and that $102,028 was awarded. Grants are awarded in May and October each year.
