LEWISTON – On May 12, the National Association of Letter Carriers participated in the annual “Stamp out Hunger” food drive. Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding areas collected 10,500 pounds of food to benefit Good Shepherd Food Bank-member agencies. Postal communities throughout Maine were encouraged to donate the collected goods to their local pantries and hunger relief agencies. Throughout the United States, more than 70.7 million pounds of food was donated in the nation’s largest one-day effort to combat hunger. The food drive consisted of more than 10,000 cities and towns across America in support of local food banks, pantries and shelters to help needy families.
