Dear Sun Spots: The Senior Companion Program is looking for caring people to help make the day brighter for homebound elderly in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Companions spend 15-20 hours a week visiting and relieving loneliness and isolation for the homebound. They also receive a tax free stipend, mileage reimbursement and other benefits.

If you are 60 years of age and on a fixed income you may be eligible to become a senior companion.

Please call Anna Saar at 1-800-287-1482 for more information and an application.

This program is sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and is partnered with Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice and SeniorsPlus.

Thank you Sun Spots readers for caring. – Anna Saar, South Paris.

Thank you. – Scott Morrison, Auburn.

Dear Sun Spots: I was wondering if there was a place around that gives away or sells really cheap, used scooters or wheelchairs. Being recently disabled and needing to get around, I am in dire need of help. I have searched in the want ads and Uncle Henry’s, but they are so expensive. I am only 42 and would like to get out and do things with my family, and at times I need help to get around. I do prefer a scooter, because of use of only one arm. Thank you for all your help. I have seen this column help a lot of people and hope someone can help me. You may reach me at 514-7756. Thank you. – No Name, No Town.
