FARMINGTON – Police Chief Richard E. Caton III has announced the employees of the quarter for winter and spring.

Sgt. Shane P. Cote was selected the Farmington Police Department Employee of the Quarter for the winter of 2007. During that time, he was the supervisor on duty during a snowmobile crash that involved some of the officers. Caton said Cote was instrumental in mentoring several officers during that time.

In February, Cote was the on-duty supervisor when a traffic crash occurred on the Wilton Road. Upon arrival, he learned that one of Farmington’s police officers was involved and his fiancée was critically injured.

Caton said Cote utilized his supervisory skills to assist at the scene and, to avoid conflict of interest, transferred the investigation to an outside agency while continuing to assist to make sure needs were met.

During the winter Cote mentored officers to assist them in their profession, Caton said, and mentoring is an integral part of supervising in today’s policing.

Caton named Marc R. Bowering as Employee of the Quarter for the spring. During that time he apprehended two juveniles in the act of committing a burglary and assisted Wilton Police Department with an investigation that solved several burglaries in surrounding towns. Caton said Bowering also mentored a new Wilton police officer who was from out-of-state. He covered Maine subjects in policing so that the officer could get his Maine law enforcement certification.
