RUMFORD – The Litchfield Red Sox defeated the Rumford Cardinals 5-3 Tuesday in the Central Maine Men’s Senior Baseball League.

After the Sox took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Cards struck for all of their runs in the third. The rally included an RBI single by Ed Patterson. The Sox cut the gap to 3-2 in the fourth as Dave Wilson scored on a Joe Wilson hit, and took the lead for good in the fifth on a 2-run double by Bob Cochran. The winners added an insurance run in the sixth as Matt Richardson drove in Brett Witherell with his second double of the game.

The Cards loaded the bases in the last of the seventh but a double-play ended the close contest.

Patterson, Kevin Gallant and Mark Palmer were repeat hitters for Rumford. Richardson and House did likewise for Litchfield.

Jim Morris got the pitching win while Steve Lapointe took the loss.
