LEWISTON – The University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College will offer two computer courses this fall.

LAC 112, “Microsoft Excel,” is a seven-week, one-credit course that will be offered from Sept. 6 to Oct. 18. It is a basic introductory course that demonstrates Microsoft’s spreadsheet program Excel.

By using a problem-solving approach, students will learn how to enter data, create formulas and analyze that data. They will also learn how to create appropriate graphs to interpret what has been entered. The course will meet from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays.

LAC 307, “Web Design,” is a three-credit course that will present in-depth Web page design for nonprogrammers. The course also includes an exploration of HTML, DHTML and some experience with Web scripting languages. Server-side Web strategies will also be studied.

Students will be expected to design and implement Web pages containing many of the features learned in class. Prerequisites are Significant Windows and Windows’ application experience, along with experience on the Internet using a Web browser. The course will meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays.

Registration for the fall semester at USM/L-A is open and will continue through the start of classes, which will begin Tuesday, Sept. 4. Those who are not students at USM/L-A are welcome to register.
