BETHEL – The Mahoosuc Community Band will present its annual end-of-summer concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, at the West Parish Congregational Church in Bethel.

This year, the concert will benefit band member Lauretta Varo, who is undergoing treatment for cancer. Band President Brian Dunham said Varo, one of the original band members, is their “anchor and driving force.” She is also a longtime resident and business owner, most recently operating the Doggie and Kitty Salon in West Bethel and previously operated The Only Place restaurant in Bethel. She plays the alto saxophone in the band, and has held several positions on band committees over the years.

The Mahoosuc Community Band extends this special invitation to the community to enjoy an evening of traditional music for concert band, with refreshments following the concert. Donations will be gratefully accepted for this benefit concert.

For those who cannot make the concert but would like to contribute to Varo, please send to Mahoosuc Community Band, P. O. Box 1104, Bethel, ME 04217-1104. For more information please contact Brian Dunham at 665-2967 or email [email protected].
