BUCKFIELD – Town Manager Glen Holmes reported to selectmen Tuesday night that everything has come together for the Community Days celebration.
A dance will be held Saturday night, Sept. 1, on the football field behind the Municipal Center. Firemen will host a pig roast and firemen’s muster on Sunday, Sept. 2.
On Monday, Labor Day, a large parade will take place. There will be 20 booths for crafts and food on the field along with a display of antique cars and antique engines. There will also be performers on a stage on the field.
In other business, Holmes reported the town will be getting $63,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for repair work done on town roads after the Patriot’s Day flood.
Holmes read a report from the Swap Shop Committee and declared that opening day was a success. Many usable items came in and went out from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The committee still needs volunteers to help monitor the shop during the open hours. Those interested are asked to contact the town office.
The board approved a request of $100 from the emergency management administrator to assist in expenses for the Community Emergency Response Team training.
Holmes reminded the board that the waste transfer station will start operating Wednesday and Saturday starting Sept. 5. The station will no longer be open Tuesday.
Candy Brooks and Cindy Dunn were appointed to the Social Services Committee.
Warren Wright was appointed to the Economic Development Committee.
Holmes read a letter from education Commissioner Susan Gendron telling officials of the deadline school districts have to file a notice of intent of which district they intend to partner with in school consolidation. That date is Aug. 31. Any plan will go to voters.
