LEWISTON – With the new school year starting, many local employers are looking for training opportunities for their employees.
“Training dollars are usually tight, so employers are looking for effective training at a reasonable rate,” said Eva Giles, Lewiston Adult Education’s community education coordinator. “We work with the local businesses to find out about their needs and then to design programs that give employees the skills that are needed.”
Central Maine Eye Care is one of the businesses sending employees for training during the fall semester. Kathy Libby is a staff member who has enrolled for the fall “Medical Billing Basics” class.
Libby said, “We have already proven that we want to do a better job, so it was not hard to convince the company to support us.” Libby said she and a co-worker enrolled in the adult education course because of the convenience. “The class doesn’t involve a lot of time. One night a week is very doable,” Libby said.
Many other local employers who have accessed Lewiston Adult Education for their employees have expressed similar sentiments. Karen Stover from Opportunity Farm has sent a few employees to adult education programs for training.
“The training provided by Lewiston Adult Education was satisfactory and has been very helpful. The employee thought that the course was great. What she learned has been a help to both her and to us. I would recommend it to other employers and will use it again in the future.”
Lewiston Adult Education has provided training for a variety of businesses. Insurance companies, credit unions, trades and craftsmen, along with a variety of offices, have used Lewiston Adult Education to meet their training needs.
In addition to the traditional training programs, customized training programs are also available. For more information, contact Lewiston Adult Education at 795-4141. To view the fall course offerings, visit www.lewistonadulted.org.
