UNITY – The Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad Preservation Society will present its second annual murder mystery dinner gala Saturday, Sept. 15. Guests are welcome to tour the new museums, chat with fellow passengers and bid on items during the silent auction. Then, it’s all aboard for a fine dining experience overlooking Lake Winnecook and the chance to solve the “As the Sun Sets” mystery.
The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour and silent auction. The train will depart Unity Station at 7 p.m. and return at 9:30 p.m. Seating is limited and by reservation only. Call 948-5500. The deadline for reservations is Sept. 4.
The society’s primary focus is the restoration, preservation and continuation of the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad’s history, including classic rail cars, equipment, rail corridor and history of railroading in Waldo County and in Maine. The society operates scenic passenger excursion trains through Maine’s forest with panoramic views of lakes and streams.
This year, the BMLRR is celebrating its 140th anniversary. The regular excursion season will run through mid-October. Other specials this year include Family Day, Halloween trains and Santa Express. The BMLRRPS will also run shuttles during the Common Ground Fair.
