LEWISTON – Jimmy Buffett’s lead guitarist Peter Mayer, a respected musician in his own right, will be the headliner at The Maple Room’s opening Thursday, Sept. 6.
The new intimate performance space and listening room at 22 Park St. comes to the downtown, courtesy of Taylor and Rebecca Mesplé, two musicians who recently moved from Colorado to Maine.
The 80-seat performance space offers seating on three sides of the stage to offer an up-close-and-personal feel, with some additional standing room. A gallery space will feature the work of area artists and a concession stand will offer organic treats, most of them made in Maine.
Events at The Maple Room will include acoustic singer/songwriters, jazz, classical music, poetry readings and a weekly open mic.
The Mesplés see The Maple Room as a hub for local performers as well as world-class talent the likes of guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Mayer, who has quietly built a following across the country, performing his own work and fronting his own band, The Peter Mayer Group.
Melding a unique and eclectic writing style, a distinctive voice and virtuoso musicianship, Mayer creates compelling and accessible music that is electrifying in live shows.
Boston-based singer/songwriter Amy Petty will open for Mayer at 7:30 p.m. She is earning a spotlight in the contemporary folk world for her classically trained voice and melodic songwriting.
Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. performance are $35 and available at www.TheMapleRoom.info.
Other performances on the schedule so far include Livingston Taylor, the Portland String Quartet, Peter Mulvey, and Willy Porter.
A gifted pianist and songwriter, Taylor Mesplé has released several of his own recordings and performed as a sideman in 1,000-plus shows to date. He recently worked with James Taylor and Keb’ Mo’ on the nationally syndicated E-TOWN radio program. Taylor also owns and runs InnerCircle Productions, a recording studio and production company, now based in Maine.
