LEWISTON – Artwork in stone, bronze, welded steel, wood, paper, ceramic and mixed media created by 22 sculptors from around the state will be showcased in the “Maine Sculptors” exhibit at the Atrium Gallery.

A reception, free and open to the public, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in the gallery at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn campus.

The group, called Maine Sculptors, began in 2003, when nine sculptors organized an all-sculpture exhibition at the Portland Public Library. The group has continued to exhibit at other sites and now has 26 members. Their work ranges from traditional to inventive, figurative to abstract, large and small, and with all media represented.

Artists represented in the exhibition are Anne Alexander of Windham; Susan Bennett, Auburn; Kim Bernard, North Berwick; Virginia S. Brun, Wiscasset; Raymond Carbone, Milbridge; Donna L. Caron, Dayton; Clara Cohan, Cape Elizabeth; Dereck Glaser, Winthrop; Christopher Gowell, Eliiot; Steffi Greenbaum, Falmouth; Beth Henderson, Belfast; Carolyn Judson, Bath; Steve Lindsay, Tenants Harbor; John Lorence, Newcastle; Kathleen Mack, Round Pond; Lou Mastro, 1936-2006, Raymond; Elizabeth Ostrander, Eastport; Patrick Plourde, New Gloucester; Quint-Rose, Tenants Harbor; Scott Stoll, Milton, Mass.; Dan Ucci, East Pittston; and Jacques Vesery, Damariscotta.

The exhibit goes up Sept. 4 and will run through Oct. 13. L-A College is at 51 Westminster St.

Gallery hours are 8 a.m.to 8 p.m. Mon. through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. For more information, call 753-6500 or log on to usm.maine.edu/lac/art.
