RUMFORD – The Great Falls Outlaws ended the regular season on a high note, an 8-6 win over the Rumford Cardinals at Hosmer Field. The Outlaws finished 9-6, good enoough for third place in the National League, and will meet second-seeded Auburn White Sox in the playoffs Sunday at 9 a.m. at Auburn Suburban Little League.

Veteran Rumford Pitcher Bitsy Ionta, 72, hurled a scoreless first inning, but it wasn’t enough. The Outlaws pounded out 20 hits off 3 relievers. Greg Massey, Randy Marcum and Scott Berube all collected 3 hits and an RBI. Dave Coburn added 2 hits and knocked in 2 runs.

Other repeat hitters were Rod Bates, Drew Leavitt, Ed Fadden and Roland Berube. The big inning was a 4-run third.

Rich Ozment pitched 6 solid innings to capture the win. Masse closed it out with a 6-out save.

Paul Pulia rapped 2 hits for the Cards. Steve Lapointe was the losing hurler.
