AUBURN – Wednesday, Sept. 13, is the beginning of the 2007-2008 year for the Woman’s Literary Union, 19 Elm St.

British-born Andrew Harris, executive director of L/A Arts, will be the first speaker of the year. The lyrical writings of Dylan Thomas, poet, author and lecturer will be his subject.

Harris trained as an actor/educator in London and attended the University of London, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He gained a B.Ed. in arts education, an MA in theater and an associate of RADA.

In Maine he has appeared on stage at the Public Theatre and Portland Stage Co. and appeared on the History Channel in the docu-drama, “Desperate Crossing, the Real Story of The Mayflower.”

Harris is an affiliate artist at Portland Stage and artistic director of the Maine Performing Arts Festival, Bethel.

On Oct. 11 Nancy Preble will present her photographic prints. Hugh Keene will be the speaker on Nov. 8. There will be no meetings in December and January. Love songs on the piano by Phil House will entertain members on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. Soloist Mary Murphy is scheduled for March 13.

The annual luncheon will be held at noon April 24 at Central Maine Community College. One hundred years, 1860-1960, will be presented by Lynn McKenzie with her display of hats at the last meeting of the year on May 8.

All meetings are held at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St., beginning at 2 p.m. The meetings are open to the public.

Included as well for the year will be the holiday fair on Nov. 10, the three-day open house on Dec. 7, 8 and 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Dec. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Mother/Daughter/Doll Tea will be held in the spring.
