Classic Football: Michigan St. at Ohio St., 1998
1 p.m., ESPN Classic
This was back when the Big Ten played football and not the stuff it tries to pass off as football now.
MLB: Indians at White Sox
2 p.m., WGN
Let the debate begin: Who would the Red Sox rather face in the first round of the playoffs – the Indians or the Angels? Even though I think the Angels are the best team in baseball right now, I’d rather face them than Grady Sizemore, C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona.
Air Race World Series
4 p.m., FSNE
According to Wikipedia, in air racing, “pilots fly individually against the clock and have to complete tight turns through a slalom course consisting of specially designed pylons, known as ‘air gates.'” If the Departement of Defense saw this going on in Afghanistan, it would call it terrorist training.
MLB: Devil Rays at Red Sox
7 p.m., NESN
The Red Sox should have their entire bat rack confiscated if they lose to Edwin Jackson 2-1 again like they did on Aug. 22.
MLB: Braves at Mets
7 p.m., ESPN
There was a time when the Braves would come into Shea three games out and leave the Big Apple in first place in the National League East. That time is long, long gone.
Pool: Challenge of Champions
8 p.m., ESPN2
To me, pool on TV peaked in the 1970s when Willie Mosconi, Steve Mizerack and Minnesota Fats were waddling around the table. Now, it’s like the World’s Strongest Man competitions – a cheap immitation.
