Throughout the buildup to the Iraq war, and ever since it started, the president has been relentless in pushing the dubious idea that the war in Iraq is making America safer.

Yesterday during his Senate testimony, Gen. David Petreaus, who is in charge of the Iraq war effort, was asked by Republican Sen. John Warner of Virginia if the war in Iraq is making us safer.

Petreaus’ response, “I don’t know actually,” is all the reason one needs to realize the colossal strategic blunder invading and occupying Iraq was and is.

It is time to redeploy troops from Iraq instead of trying to officiate a religious civil war.
