Three teams are still unbeaten after 2 weeks of play in the Western Maine Youth Football League (Grades 7-8).

They are Mt. Blue which edged Auburn Recs 12-8; AYS of Jay-Livermore after rolling to a 41-0 win over Poland-Minot-McFalls-Buckfield; and Gardiner which trimmed the Lewiston Demons 22-8.

Jeff Turcotte tallied the lone Lewiston touchdown on a 70-yard kickoff return. Shawn Ricker made a nifty diving catch for the 2-point conversion. The Demons were led defensively by Matt Therrien and Joe McKinnon. Lewiston’s home opener is Thursday against Mt. Blue (2-0). In the JV game, the Demons and Tigers battled to a 6-6 tie. Lewiston opened the game with consecutive big plays from Matt Melanson, the first coming on a 35-yard reception from Steve Patrie. That set up Melanson’s 30-yard TD run on the next play. Desmond Gagne had a big game on both sides of the football.

In the other game last week, Mountain Valley blanked Oxford Hills 12-0.

Week 3 schedule: Thursday, Mt. Blue at at Lewiston, 5:00, LAP (JV game 3:30); Saturday, Auburn at Poland-Minot-McFalls-Buckfield, 10:30, Buckfield HS (JV game 9 a.m.; Oxford Hills at AYS, 7 p.m., Livermore Falls HS (JV game 5:30); Gardiner at Mt. Valley, 7 p.m., MV Middle School (JV game 5:30).

Poland prevails

POLAND – The Poland Knights 7th-grade football team rolled to a 40-16 victory over the Livermore Falls Jets Saturday.

The JV Knights were led by outstanding blocking on the offensive line and the running of Tony Whalen ane Nate Morin. Defensively the Knights were sparked by Tyler Sturtevant, Sonny Day and Mike Tuell, Eric Stevens, Sammy Scales asnd Ben Milliken, the latter returning an intercepion for a touchdown.

The Knights are currently 1-1 in the Western Maine Jayvee Football League.
