CHARLESTON – Mountain View Youth Development Center is one of three juvenile correctional facilities from across the United States to receive the Barbara Allen-Hagen Award, a national award recognizing outstanding and exemplary work by juvenile correctional facilities.

Selection for the award include efforts that improve safety for youths and staff, hold youths accountable and provide effective rehabilitation services that prevent future crime. The award was presented at the summer business meeting of the Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators in Kansas City, Mo.

Mountain View also received a flag bearing the performance based standards emblem.

The center is a 140-bed, secure juvenile facility that detains and incarcerates male and female juvenile offenders 11 to 21, serving Aroostook, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo and Washington counties.
