BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) – A fire damaged a movie set in a former bank building early Thursday, forcing Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and 50 Cent to film other scenes in different areas of the city, the movie’s publicist said.

The blaze at the old Mechanics & Farmers Bank, a downtown landmark, was reported at about 2:30 a.m. No one was injured, and the fire was put out in about 30 minutes, officials said.

The bank was being used this week to shoot scenes about a Harlem nightclub for “Righteous Kill.” De Niro, Pacino and 50 Cent were to go to other locations in the city for filming Thursday, said publicist Cid Swank.

The fire damaged the set and filming equipment, including cameras, lights and sound gear, Swank said. The extent of the damage was being assessed Thursday.

Fire officials said a preliminary review indicates the fire may have started when a malfunctioning battery charger overheated.

Mayor John Fabrizi said the city owns the two-story building, which is about 70 years old. He said a city attorney and insurance adjuster were at the site.

“It’s very unfortunate that the fire happened during the middle of this shoot,” he said. “However, we will work with the production company and our own folks to make sure the building’s restored back to its original form.”
