NORWAY -A short story reading and discussion series led by Jeanette Baldridge will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Norway Memorial Library.
The series, “The Importance of Storytelling,” is a program in the library’s Celebration of the Short Story. The first meeting will include watching a video of oral story telling in the Native American tradition and comparing it to a contemporary Native American written story.
Copies of the first reading may be picked up at the library. Discussions will be held every other Tuesday at 7 p.m. as scheduled below:
Oct. 9, “What Makes a Story?,” video of Native American oral storytelling, and “The Man to Send Rain Clouds” by Leslie Marmon Silko.
Oct. 23, “The Importance of Stories,” “No Name Woman” by Maxine Hong Kingston and “How to Tell a True War Story” by Tim O’Brien.
Nov. 6, “Retribution,” “Barn Burning” by William Faulkner and “Killings” by Andre Dubus.
Nov. 20, “Happily Ever After,” “Tell Me a Riddle” by Tillie Olsen and “The Bear Came Over the Mountain” by Alice Munro.
Dec. 4, “Exploring the Darkness,” “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor and “Ollie, Oh” by Carolyn Chute.
