HARRISON – A fall fest will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Scribner’s Mill and the Harrison Historical Society’s Carlson Homestead.
Activities will include butter-making, wood stove cooking, hulling corn, grinding corn, pumpkin painting, popping corn, horseback rides, cider pressing, apple bobbing, using natural dyes for wool, and wood splitting.
There will be an apple pie judging contest. Rep. Richard Sykes and Michael Thorne will be on hand at the Scribner Homestead to judge the pies. Prize ribbons will be given to the winners, then the pies will be sold by silent bid. The contest will start at 1:15 p.m.; bakers are to have their pies for judging at the Scribner Homestead by 12:30.
In addition to the fall activities, the Carlson and Scribner Homesteads will open for touring. The mill will be operating and the historical society’s museum will be open for viewing.
There will be a $5 charge, which will give admission to both sites. The fee will go to support the ongoing effort to restore the mill and support the Carlson Homestead.
