Foliage race, fun run winners announced

WATERFORD – The eighth annual Waterford Fall Foliage Race and Fun Run was held recently with 210 participating overall, while the Western Maine Chili Cook-Off was a success. The Lake House Inn of Waterford took the judges’ prize and Springer’s Store won the peoples’ choice again this year.

Timothy Even defended his last two 5K wins and won overall with a time of 16:41. Even, 18, is from Stoneham. Chris Gatchell of Portland and Waterford was second with a time of 17:31. Ron Newbury of Freedom, N.H., 57, third, had a time of 18:37. Lloyd Slocum, 74, nationally known race winner in his age category, won his age group in his first time in this race. He is from Hollis Center.

Keeley Tobler of Salem, Mass., was first for the women, at 23:12. Joanie Albers of Allenstown, N.H., at 23:31, was second, and Kirstin Sandreuter, 11, of North Yarmouth, at 23:46, was third. She was the youngest entrant.

In the 1K Fun Run this year, Caleb Fillebrown, 11, of Waterford, was first with a time of 7:24. Lily Weafer, 5, of Waterford, won first overall in her age group and Daniel Chizmar, 5, of Lewiston, won with a time of 9:19. Caleb Fillebrown, with a time of 7:24, and Krystal Nelson, 9, of North Waterford, with a time of 8:44, were first in their age group.
