NORWAY – Norway Memorial Library will observe Teen Read Week Sunday through Saturday, Oct. 14 to 20. Theme will be “LOL – Laugh Out Loud.”
The young adult services staff invites teens ages 13 to 18 to a Read-and-Laugh-A-Thon from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in the library’s multi-purpose room. Humor and comedy are the themes and the afternoon will be divided between reading and activities that include writing cartoon punch lines, practicing a comedy routine and using computers to create joke books.
Refreshments will be available during reading times and snack breaks are built into the schedule.
Bring a book or choose one in the library.
The program will end with pizza and a comic line drawing activity. Prizes will be given for the funniest cartoon, comedy routine and jokes using a Laugh-O-Meter.
This is the second year Norway Memorial Library will celebrate Teen Read Week, a national literacy incentive of the Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association.
Studies show that for every 100,000 words read, the reader’s vocabulary growth is 50 percent. Parents of teens are encouraged to celebrate Teen Read Week at home.
