Emblem Club adds member
FARMINGTON – Farmington Emblem Club 460 met at the West Farmington Elks Lodge on Oct. 4 for a potluck supper and meeting. A new member, Debra Peters, was initiated into the club. There were 29 members present, 59 absent and a new member, for a total of 89.
President Nancy Chase called the meeting to order. Shannon Smith reported that the club won three awards at the Wilton Blueberry Festival in August: one for the car carrying State Emblem President Barbara Wyman, Chase and Dorothy McKenzie; for the club-sponsored youth cheerleaders; and for the Emblem Club color guard. Chase announced that the club-sponsored annual October dance has been canceled. Sylvia Richards, Emblem chairwoman for the Farmington Fair food booth, thanked everyone who helped.
A quilt and quilt rack, donated to the club by Richard Knight in the name of Sandy Knight, was on display during supper. Raffle tickets were sold for the items, plus an afghan with rack, which will be raffled along with the quilt and rack. Tickets are available from First Vice President Sylvia Richards, and they will be sold at the Nov. 3 craft fair.
Jean Corcoran, co-chairwoman of the Nov. 3 and Dec. 1 craft fairs, and Sharon Jacques reminded members to think of the fairs and what they would like to bake or donate for a craft. She will go into more detail at the November meeting.
Kamilla Hall reminded the club volunteers of the supper that will be prepared for the Air Force Band performance at Mt. Blue High School. Club members will also perform a flag-folding ceremony. Donations will be made to a new group of girls calling themselves “Team Voices” and to the Mt. Blue Jazz Band. At the end of the meeting, Chase read her report of the Supreme Convention in San Francisco.
