LEWISTON – Senate President Beth Edmonds will speak at the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary noon meeting on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Ramada Inn.
Edmonds will discuss issues on the agenda for the upcoming legislative session, including ethics. She may touch on topics, including transportation, economic development, Maine’s workforce, health care and the correctional system. Edmonds will also take questions from the public about current legislative matters.
Edmonds is the second female president of the Maine Senate and first serving two consecutive terms. She was first elected to the Senate in 2000 and has served on legislative committees on labor, marine resources and natural resources.
This is Edmonds’ final consecutive term in the Senate since Maine’s term limits law allows state legislators a maximum of four terms in either chamber. She represents District 10, which includes Freeport, Brunswick, Harpswell and Pownal.
Edmonds is the recipient of the “Hero for Democracy” award from FairVote, the Center for Voting and Democracy. She also been presented with the Clifton F. Rodgers Award for outstanding service to the deaf and heard-of-hearing communities in Maine.
She is a graduate of Clark University and earned an MA from Goddard College. Edmonds is director at the Freeport Community Library, where she has worked for 27 years. She lives in Freeport with her husband, Dan Nickerson.
