SOUTH HIRAM – Sarah Pingree and Maeve Downey scored off rebounds in the first half to lead No. 8 Sacopee Valley to a 3-1 girls’ soccer victory over No. 9 Monmouth in the Western Class C preliminary-round playoff game.

Monmouth’s Katie Woodman helped keep the score close by stopping 18 shots. Jess Gray scored the lone goal for the Mustangs (7-6-2) on an assist from Jill Armstrong in the second half.
