Clearing sale

NORWAY – Alpha and Omega Thrift Shop, an outreach of His Place Teen Center, will hold a clearing-out sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2 and 3, inside the Norway/Paris Solid Waste Station on Brown Street.

Call Bert Rugg at 743-9503 or 515-3000. It coincides with the last yard sale on Thursday through Tuesday, Nov. 1 to 6, on Route 26 next to the fish market.

Grange supper

OXFORD – A public supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Oxford Grange, Route 26. Menu will consist of roast turkey with all the fixings and assorted pies. Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12. Take-out will be available.

To read paper

OTISFIELD – Jean Hankins will read her paper, “Soul Searching: Ten Diaries from Otisfield, Maine,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the town office.

She presented the paper last year at the Dublin Seminar in Deerfield, Mass. Among the 10 diaries discussed are those written by Mary Pride Knight, Horatio Barrows, Nathaniel Lamb, Hester Hill and Ernest Greenleaf.

In her paper Hankins shows how the diaries help the historian understand the religious history of the town. More specifically, she discusses the importance in the 19th century of July 4 and Fast Day, both of which were religious celebrations.

Hankins’ paper is scheduled to be published next year by the Dublin Seminar. The Historical Society welcomes all to the program.

Women to meet

HARRISON – Church Women United will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at United Parish Congregational Church. The program for World Community Day, “Embracing Justice under God’s Tent,” will focus on justice and peace in the global society. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Chinese auction

PARIS – A Chinese auction will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School cafeteria. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and the auction will begin at 5. There will be more than 500 items, food, 50/50 and dollar table. Proceeds will benefit the Oxford Fair.

Computer classes

WATERFORD – The Waterford Library is offering instruction in computer use for beginners. They will be small classes with attention paid to the individual’s needs.

The first meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. The sessions are intended to help future computer owners explore the variety of things that can be done with a computer.

Other topics will include how to select and purchase a computer and software at minimal complexity and cost and the how to choose among the variety of local Internet service providers. Other topics may be explored based on need.

Preregistration is required. Leave a message at the library, 583-2050.

Society speaker

GREENWOOD – Greenwood Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the historical building on Main Street. John Davis will give a program on the history of the Grand Trunk stone quarry at Bryant Pond. Everyone is welcome.

Holiday fair

HARTFORD – The annual Hartford Christmas Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Hartford Town Hall. There will be refreshments, including hot cocoa, tea, coffee, sandwiches, hot dogs, cookies, cake and fudge.

The fair is sponsored by the Hartford Community Church Women’s Group.

Crafters wanted

BUCKFIELD – Crafters are wanted for the annual Nezinscot Valley Music Booster Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in the Buckfield Jr/Sr High School. Table space, 8 x 10, is $10. Bridge winners

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met on Oct. 26 at the Fare Share Co-op for the weekly game. Coming in first in A were Woody Mercier and John Bravo; second, Georgette Jewell and Pat Quinn; first in B,e Suzanne Andrews and Carol Curran; second, Eleanor Griffin and Jim Dickens.
