PORTLAND (AP) – The boyfriend of 21-year-old Jennifer Soto, whose body was found in a river in Bowdoinham, is being charged with the Portland woman’s murder.

Portland police arrested 27-year-old Joel Olavarria-Rivera outside Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook. He has been taken to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with murder.

Olavarria-Rivera told police Friday that his girlfriend was missing. Her body was found in the West Branch of the Cathance (CAT’-hance) River on Saturday morning.

Olavarria-Rivera and Soto have children ages 1 and 3. Police believe Soto was killed in the Portland apartment where she lived.
