FARMINGTON – Twenty-eight University of Maine at Farmington students were recently inducted into UMF’s inaugural chapter of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society for First Year Students by society national office representative Lisa Ruch at the organization’s installation on Oct. 14 at North Dining Hall in UMF’s Olsen Student Center.

The UMF student candidates, sophomores and juniors, qualified as honor society members during their first year at the university by maintaining a 3.5 or higher grade point average while being a full-time student, and have been awaiting induction into the national honor society upon the completion of UMF’s application.

“UMF is committed to creating a supportive environment for student learning and educational quality,” said Theodora J. Kalikow, UMF president, “and we are so proud to have our students receive such prestigious recognition of their hard work and academic success.”

Alpha Lambda Delta, an honor society that has been in existence since 1924, seeks to “encourage superior academic achievement, to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society.”

Those honored were Kristen Bannon, West Kingston, R.I.; Lindsay Bolduc, Oakland; Elizabeth Borski, Millbury, Mass.; Kate Braley, Alexandria, N.H.; Brooke Burton, Bar Harbor; Derek Carroll, Belmont, N.H.; Christine Davis, Saco; Elizabeth DeAngelis, Lewiston; Ashley Devereaux, Gardiner; Vanessa Grindle, Little Deer Isle; Melissa Ingalls, Irasburg, Vt.

Also, Kelly Johnson, Exeter, R.I.; Michelle Kaye, Kingston; Ashley LaCroix, Benton; Samantha Leeman, Lewiston; Ashley Leveillee, Spencer, Mass.; Danielle MacDonald, Auburn; Andrew Major, Orono; Sarah Maxim, Readfield; Kaitlin McPheters, Richmond; Peter Osborne, Medway; Arielle Pasquale, Millbury, Mass.; Erin Porter, Bangor; Ryan Reed, Lewiston; Robert Ripley, South Paris; Ashley Rochefort, Biddeford; Jessica Squires, Sidney and Lauren Vensel, Oakland.

In addition, President Kalikow and eight honorary members from the university’s faculty and staff were also inducted: Allen Berger, vice president for academic affairs; Celeste Branham, vice president for student and community services; Michael Burke, professor of English and honors director; Allison Hepler, associate professor of history and chapter adviser; Robert Lively, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Wendy Orosz, college success/academic advising counselor and chapter adviser; Doug Rawlings, director of institutional research and grants administration; and Katherine Yardley, dean of the College of Education, Health and Rehabilitation.
