The New England Patriots released tight end Marcellus Rivers on Tuesday, the fourth time he’s been cut by the team since Aug. 8.

Rivers has no catches in three games. He was inactive for last Sunday’s 24-20 win at Indianapolis.

The five-year veteran began his career in 2001 with the New York Giants and later played with the Houston Texans. He was with the Oakland Raiders in the 2006 preseason and was on the New Orleans Saints roster for one game last season, but was inactive.

Rivers has 51 career receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
