Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls celebrates drug free awareness week.
Every year Elm Street School has a red ribbon week celebration where they enforce drug free awareness. This takes place during the week of October 22-26 this year. They celebrate by doing wacky things like crazy hair day and mix match day. It’s a neat way for students to be educated about drugs and having fun at the same time. On Friday the twenty sixth the whole school including teachers march down to the town’s American Legion for cookies and fruit punch. The Advanced Band including six, seventh, and eighth graders, play a few songs like “We Will Rock You” and “The Hey Song” just for entertainment.
This week means a lot to the school not just because it’s educational and may prevent kids from doing drugs, but because the kids in the school really have a blast. Who wouldn’t with being wacky all week, walking down the middle of the street with one’s friends, and having cookies and punch?
