WATERVILLE (AP) – Police say a white man’s verbal assaults on a black man last month amounted to a hate crime.

Police say 57-year-old Ralph Taylor pointed to his “white power” tattoo while taunting the black man on Oct. 20 and 21. The tattoo featured dual lightning bolts, a symbol associated with Adolf Hitler’s SS corps.

Deputy Police Chief Charles Rumsey says Taylor has been charged with terrorizing, a misdemeanor. He says the case is also being forwarded to the state attorney general’s office for possible civil sanctions.
