AUBURN – Electric power was knocked out temporarily Thursday night when a vehicle snapped a utility pole beside Minot Avenue, closing the four-lane highway for a time.

Jennifer Martin, 31, of Minot and two 2-year-old boys suffered minor injuries in the 5:55 p.m. crash, an Auburn Police Department spokeswoman said. They were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment, she said.

The cause of the accident, which occurred as Martin drove west toward Minot, had not been determined late Thursday. Officer Ben Quinnell investigated. Martin’s 2005 Ford Explorer was demolished.

Police blocked off a section of Minot Avenue near Garfield Road while emergency crews responded and Central Maine Power Co. crews began making repairs in the area near Leighton’s store at 968 Minot Ave.

The pole on the north side of the highway snapped at the base when it was struck, dragging down wires and causing the area to go dark. Police detoured traffic around the scene.

Power was shut off at 6:19 for about 15 minutes, then again at 8:57 p.m. until 9:05 p.m., a spokesman for CMP said early Friday.
