• Cars will begin making regular trips to and from Mechanic Falls on the new electric line constructed by the L. A. & W. St. Railway next Wednesday. The first car was run from Lewiston to Mechanic Falls and back on Saturday, the railroad commissioners being taken to inspect the line. The new line is one of the finest equipped in New England.
• The Bates Street Roller Skating Rink was opened Saturday night, and the large number of skaters present indicated that the pastime will be as popular with the young people of Lewiston and Auburn this winter as last. Excellent music was furnished by an orchestra and everything passed off smoothly.

BOSTON – Arctic air pouring into New England will keep area temperatures around the freezing mark for the next two days, the Weather Bureau forecast tonight. The weather for the next two days, the weatherman said, will be more like late December than November.
AUGUSTA – The State Department of Health and Welfare said yesterday that 21 deaths in Maine during the past eight weeks could be attributed directly or indirectly to influenza. The division of communicable diseases said an estimated 122,000 persons in Maine have had the flu since September. Only nine were confirmed Asian flu, but other cases were of the Asian variety.

LEWISTON – When Lewiston Hardware and Plumbing Supply Co. reopens its doors Friday after a two-day holiday, it will be the beginning of the end for the business which has occupied the site of the former Opera House on Lisbon Street for nearly 50 years. In a matter of weeks, just long enough for the existing $3- to $4-million inventory to be sold off in a liquidation sale, the store will be closed by its Augusta-based owners, Northern Electrical, Plumbing and Supply Co., which purchased the True Value affiliate only three or four months ago.
