LEWISTON – With the disparity between the haves and the have nots in Maine Class A hockey, there are bound to be games when you leave the rink wondering if what you saw was a bad dream.

Thursday, Mt. Ararat bore the brunt of one of those games. On the other end, Lewiston dished out its second helping of dominance in as many games.

Fifteen different Blue Devils had at least one point, and Alex Lafreniere needed to make just seven saves as the home team plowed over the Eagles, 13-0, at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

“That’s the danger in a game like this,” Lewiston coach Norm Gagne said. “You tend to slow down your game and get sloppy. I thought we did a good job of keeping the tempo up a bit and moving the puck around.”

Mt. Ararat has a short bench to begin with, and by the middle of the game the Eagles looked out of gas.

“We haven’t even begun to think about rebuilding yet over here,” Mt. Ararat coach Mike Abreu said. “It was what it was.”

The one thing Lewiston was able to salvage on their end of the blowout was another chance to see the whole team skate. Gagne rolled all four lines all night, and in the third, rested his top players in favor of the younger set.

Everyone got into the act, too.

Jon Roy notched a hat trick, Ben McDonough, Ryan Lemlin and Robbie Leeman had a pair of goals each, and Justin Nadeau, Andrew Marden, Casey Poussard and Craig Sirois had a goal apiece in the romp.

Lewiston has now won its first two games of the season by a combined score of 22-0.

The Blue Devils next play next Wednesday at home against Lawrence.
